Scratch

Ideas are stored and added in rough form here and will be cleaned up and transferred to the blog whenever I can be bothered (which is rarely).

Goal

To produce a maximally flexible and fast pixel editor to be used in the production of pixel art assets by pixel pushers.

It will not be MS Paint.

It will only be so easy-to-use as will not restrict function or efficiency.

It will be to pixel art what Blender is to 3D modelling and what VI is to coding.

It will provide function for non pixel art raster work only so far as it does not harm function for pixel art.

Like Blender the project aims to have a highly customizable, non overlapping and mode minimal user interface.

Reader Ideas

If you wish to contribute your ideas for a pixel art oriented editor please post them in the comments here.
Ideas deemed worthy will be integrated into the blog.

Skeleton/Watershed Based Line Extraction

Morphological skeleton, watershed extraction of 4-connect or 8-connect lines from "thick" lines such as a line-art scan.

4-connect/8-connect Line Converter

Step along 4-connect line replacing non 8-connect pixels with either a selected colour or the highest ranked neighbour not the line colour or;
step along 8-connect line filling 4-connect pixels with a selected colour, selecting pixel in order to maximise either straightness or smoothness.

Jaggy Detection

View mode to highlight regions with a high degree of jagginess.
Based on local colour difference metric and neighbourhood morphological angularity metric.

4-/8-connect Flood

Option to select between 4-connect or 8-connect neighbourhood for flood tool.
